If you're looking for ideas to liven up your lockdown bank holiday weekend, how about hosting a pancratium? (Only with members of your own household, of course.)
As May's second bank holiday looms, you may be wondering what to do with all your, um, rare freedom. If, like much of the population, you've had a lot more time on your hands since March, the prospect of a long weekend might not hold the allure it once did. With pubs, restaurants, cinemas and tourist attractions closed, fresh ideas for how to entertain the family may be getting thin on the ground.
But don't worry – simply stage a pancratium in your garden, on your balcony or even in the park. The ancient Greeks loved a pancratium and the really good news is, you don't need any special equipment. The word refers to an athletic contest involving boxing and wrestling so, it's a real chance to sort out those brewing lockdown family tensions once and for all.
May the best (or most annoyed) person win!
