Word of the week - Panegyric

April 23, 2020

For those who really won't miss a certain word beginning with 'pan' when this is all over, let's take a look at an alternative term that is a lot more cheerful to use.

When the historians of the future look back on the great Coronavirus Crisis of 2020, they may have some criticism about the way our political leaders have handled the global pandemic. Or, they may deliver a panegyric about the strategies deployed by senior world management.

Used to describe a public compliment, praise or 'lofty oration', a panegyrical tribute is something we'd all like to hear after we've pulled off a particularly tricky project or feat. The word refers to enthusiastic, formal praise – basically, if you inspire someone to speak or write about you panegyrically, you must be the bee's knees.

So, how to put this joyful word to use in the everyday? How about changing your business's Testimonials page to the Panegyric page? After all, if you've done a good job, you may as well make sure people really know about it.
